"Under the skies that cover me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be,
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance,
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance,
My head is bloody, but unbowed!
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of years finds,
and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."
"Invictus" is a Latin word that means "unconquered, un-subdued, and invincible."

" ‘Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey towards it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us. ’ … Hope sweetens the memory of experiences well loved.
It tempers our troubles to our growth and our strength. It befriends us in dark hours, excites us in bright ones. It lends promise to the future and purpose to the past. It turns discouragement to determination. "
-Samuel Smiles
